President's Message for Feb 2025: Save the Date!

Posted 3 months ago

Dear Chapter Members:

Well, I just finished watching the Big Game that was pretty one-sided, and I have to say congratulation to the Eagles fans out there.  They dominated the game and went on to win their second Superbowl in franchise history.  In a way it kind of reminds me of how we go into the operating room every day without hesitation and utilize our unique skills so that our patients have the best possible outcomes.

Thank you to all who were able to make it to our January meeting.  The speaker was outstanding and the education presentation on "Mastering Modern Sterile Technique: A Deep Dive in the New AORN Guidelines."  Dr Garrett provided a wealth of information on the latest updates on room air monitoring, controlling the number of people in the room, limiting door openings during surgery, and much more.  I wish some of our hospital infection prevention and risk management staff had been there.

Our next meeting is not far away, so please SAVE THE DATE for Thursday, March 13, 2025. We are planning to have the meeting start with a social hour at 5pm followed by our education system and meeting.  This worked out well in the past and the participants seemed to enjoy having time to catch up with each other.  A flyer with location and details will be sent out once things are finalized, but I expect it to be in the Winter Park area again.  If you know of someone who would like to present (an individual or a vendor) or you have suggestions for locations to hold a meeting, please forward to me or anyone on the board.

Expo is also just around the corner and is being held in Boston, MA, the first week of April.  Several active members who expressed interest in serving as chapter delegates have been finalized, and I am looking forward to spending time with them in Bean Town.  The 2026 Expo will held in New Orleans again next year from April 11 to April 14.  Now is the time to start thinking about representing our chapter for that one.  NOLA hosted a great convention back in 2018 and I am sure the next one will not disappoint.  This is the time to get involved with the chapter (especially if you want to be a future delegate), run for office, help with various projects, broaden your horizons, and lead by example by being the best perioperative nurse you can.

One other event happening this month is the AORN Town Hall and Virtual Special Business Meeting on Feb 19.  You should have received an email from national to register for the event.  The agenda includes introducing the new CEO, David Wyatt, and voting on two position statements.  That's enough for now.  Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Regards,

Brian Parton, RN
